"LA MIA SICILIA, LUCI E COLORI" MY SICILY, LIGHTS AND
COLOR
Joe Anastasio, born in Sicily, gives us a pictorial
reflection of his native island like no other. His body of
work shows a tremendous love for and understanding of his
land. Using multimedia materials, he accurately depicts the
picturesque and the symbolical with gentleness, grace and
passion. Almost all of his works are painted on ceramic
tiles, illustrating scenes of Sicily with its beautiful
landscapes, its people, its villages, and most of all, the
sea and the unforgettable sunsets. In his landscapes, you
will find monuments from the ancient Greeks, Romans, Arabs,
Byzantines, and Normans. All of these people left a legacy
of their cultures to Sicily and the Aeolian islands. Sicily,
a Millennium land, is bathed in mystery. Joe Anastasio
delights in painting these landscapes with their endless
contrasts between the land and the sea. He captures the
tropical vegetation where the prickly pears grow wild among
the rocks. His street market scenes with their endless
displays of fruits and vegetables, all products of the
island, are breath-taking. Many of his paintings depict the
people of the land and their many trades. Through his art,
Joe Anastasio shows us the Sicily that he will never forget
and never stop loving.

Sat. & Sun. from 12 noon to 4 pm and by appointment.

The Annual Meeting of the AIH Museum will be
Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 1:00pm at the AIH Museum.
The regular Board of Trustee meetings are held the fourth
Monday of each month at 7pm at the Museum.
